power shutdown-on virus?

Threaded View

finally, does this program "power shutdown-on" definitively have a virus
or not? I read so many different meanings. And my Kaspersky Internet
security suite (KIS 2009) remarks "keylogger". So I deinstalled this
program. Otherwise the impression of this program/features etc. looked
good to me.

Any experiences, meanings at all?

So I guess you are saying you have a program named  "Power Shutdown-on "
which Kaspersky detects as a "keylogger" and you wonder if it is a false
positive. If that is correct, perhaps you should contact Kaspersky or visit
their forums.
I used Google and I could not find such a program. If it is a fairly small
program, submit it to     virustotal.com     and it will be scanned by many
different anti-virus engines (free).

I find this very amusing. Peter Seiler, always quick to correct other
posters for badly formed messages or off-topic comments doesn't appear
to have read that canonical document about asking smart questions on
usenet.

I didn't. If the poster won't provide relevant information such as a
URL or some clue as to who supplies this software then why should
anyone bother.

THX for your kind jumpin.

Right, SOMETIMES I remark if there is too EXTREME OT/personal flame war
and/or too EXCESSIVE fullquoting. But this perhaps max. 20-30 times a
whole year and NOT here in alt.comp.anti-virus but sometimes in ACF -
the ruined NG by OT, endless personal flame war, tsunamically posting
egomaniacs. What are these rare postings in relation what's going on in
ACF. Read yourself.

if you have no substantial contribution to my on topic question, please
don't jumpin only to describe me as something as a netcop.

Excuse my bad english but I'm german and english is only my third or
fourth foreign language.

BTW: I corrected my input in question to Buffalo today:

"Auto Power-on Shut-down" version 2.20

No problem.

Yes, you've not posted much this year but a few years ago it was a
different story. I have a longer memory.

There's no point in tying to educate the fuckwits over there. They'll
just continue anyway.

I would never do that. I simply thought it amusing that someone who
understands newsgroups would forget the basics when asking a question;
expected behaviour for newbies but not from someone like yourself.

Are you referring to a 6 kb program called  'Shutdown on Demand 1.0"?
If so, submit it to   virustotal.com  for screening by many different

Sorry for my bad title/description.

Correct should be:

I sent the  "setup.exe" (from Auto Power-on Shut-down 2.20) file to Virus
Total and it came back negative from all vendors.
You should try VirusTotal for questionable files.
I have no experience with XP or your program.

PS: I also scanned all the files contained in the Power-on.zip file with
SAS(SuperAntiSpyware) and MBAM(MalwareByte's AntiMalware) with negative
results.

Did you perhaps do the free scan (speed up your PC etc.) offered on that
page? If so, that could be the problem.

If you think Softpedia.com are sending out files with keyloggers why don't you
talk to them ?
You can tell them what your antivirus software is telling you.
