Ran Windows Defender......

Received an alert (medium) for:

C; Windows\pss\Power Re Scheduler.exestartup and: C; Windows\pss\Power Re
SchedulerV2exe.startup

What is the best action for this file? It seems it is part of windows.

Thanks,

Marc

It is NOT part of Windows and should be removed.

windows.

It's a Nag generator designed to get you to register certain programs.
Haven't seen it used for a long time.

Re: Power Reg Scheduler

I have that same mysterious folder, and it is definately unkown so far.
There are very few googles on it, nothing in any of the windows support
sites(i checked ALL of them).

One of the forums posted seemed to use this as a fix to some sort of
error, and seems to come in the service pack 2 download from windows.

But on others it was said that this is NOT a windows file and should be
removed. Although folder seems harmless at the moment i have that
feeling that its gonna come back to haunt me(and you too).

I looked for everything relating to this folder, and i had to manually
search to find some off things that you cant find in the folder, but
are still in the folder, and yes i turned on hidden files.

Some files that really confused me were ACMonitor_X63.exe.lnkCommon
Startup because when propertiesare searched the name "mplayerc"  is
found. - MPlayer Control is an MPlayer GUI (frontend) for Windows. -
MPlayerc is a pretty crappy w.e music thing it is, heres the 1000+ line
java code
http://www.koders.com/cpp/fid8DE09011D96F51D70A1F0E677CD51944B448A5BC.aspx?s=mplayerc
.

The other startup program i stumbled on was AcBtnMgr_X63.exe.lnkCommon
Startup. I have no idea what it does and nothing came up in any
searches for it.

Other files i found in the Windows\pss folder were: Adobe Acrobat Speed
Launcher.lnkCommon Startup ; Adobe Gamma Loader.lnkCommon Startup ;
Kodak EasyShare software.lnkCommon Startup ; KODAK Software
Updater.lnkCommon Startup ; Microsoft Office.lnkCommon Startup ;and
Program Neighborhood Agent.lnkCommon Startup.

The backup files found were: boot.ini.backup ; system.ini.backup ; and
win.ini.backup.

Im startin to think halfway through this post cause it took me sooo
long to find all that is that the files appear important, but when
searching for an individual file at a time you find that there are
multiple of each.

My computer runs fine incase that was a question you were wondering, i
just stumbled across it and started to wonder why there no ligit
information on this. If you find anything plz let me know -

That's Media Player Classic, a superior (so I hear) replacement for
Windows media player. It's written in MS Visual C++, not Java.

Re: Power Reg Scheduler

ahhh ok, i only took java not C++ in school, looks kinda the same. but
that doesnt explain y the 2 names were connected.

Java is a relatively new language, and the syntactical similarity was
probably a design decision to make it easier for the majority of
developers (who are familiar with C or C++) to learn it.

I don't know why ACMonitor_X63.exe and mplayerc would be related to
each other. ACMonitor_X63 [1] is part of the software for a Lexmark
printer/scanner.

Why do you think they are connected? You should explain in detail
exactly what is meant when you say: "when properties are searched the
name mplayerc is found".

Re: Power Reg Scheduler

sry i sucked at describing that part, when i looked at the properties
for one of them the name that you can change said mplayerc, not the
other thing(it was my moms computer and is definately virus'd up so i
tried fixin it).
And then the secription was that ac w.e
