I am running windows 2000 with Norton Anti virus 2005 with good results so
far, my subscription expires in a few days. Should I renew the Norton for 40
bucks or would you go with something different. Norton 2007 isn't an option
since it doesn't support windows 2000
Thanks
Dave

Wouldn't comparitive information be more valuable than personal opinion?
A $40 US renewal fee seems a bit high when, with rebates, Norton AV 2007 can
be had for $0.00!

You have a choice;
stick with something you know and purchase a renewal for $40 US
OR
buy a new (and discounted) Norton AV2005 or Norton AV2006
OR
choose and buy a new antivirus program that has better ratings than
Norton Antivirus.

This site
http://www.av-comparatives.org /
may be of help.  As the site states, you can download free trials of most
antivirus software, then choose the one you feel most comfortable with (and
that has decent ratings.)  An advertising driven publication (PC Magazine
comes to mind) is NOT the best source of antivirus performance comparitives.

poor guy ..........

Norton is considered as being "bloatware", swallowing your PC.
Many users are amazed how much faster their PC works,
after replacing Norton by other reputable antivirus software.

Norton (and McAfee) are known to "blow up/eat up" PC's,
so that in the end Windows has to be reinstalled (after Format C:\)

For payware the best result can be expected from:
- NOD32
http://www.eset.com /
- Kaspersky
http://www.kaspersky.com /

For freeware the known candidates are:
- AOL Anti-Virus (Kaspersky core)
http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/index.adp ?
N.B. Do NOT install the toolbar
- AntiVir free
http://www.free-av.com/antivirus/allinonen.html
- Avast
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
- AVG
http://www.grisoft.com /

I prefer NOD32

Re: Personal Opinons wanted

Well I finally made up my mind and purchased Kapersky Anti Virus. A major
improvement over Nortons product

Congratulations. You have made a sound choice. This is one of the best
AV packages on the market.
