OT: Strange occurance

I was going to move some music file to another folder, highlighted
and then right clicked them to cut/paste... Windows Explorer crashed.

Did it again with single file... .mid
again with a .wav

Same result

Tested with .mpeg, .avi, .jps etc, it only happens with sound files.

Anyone have a clue on this one?

Could be any number of things.  Have you been good about keeping this
computer up to date with windows update?

Have you checked for malware/spyware?  It's possible to tinker with
the registry such that double clicking on a given file extension can
do Bad Stuff rather than just harmlessly launching the corresponding
program.  It's possible that some malware has done just that and
associated itself with the audio file extensions, or other corruption
has occurred.

As for how to fix, perhaps a registry cleaner, but if it's too
squirrelly, I'm pretty quick to head to original installation media to
reinstall especially if any malware is suspected.

Try this as a free replacement  for window explorer,  it called " xplorer "
and the lite version is free ( pro is $30. with a 30 day trail ). If it
works for you then no more problem and you'll end up with a much better file
management  program. I also had problems with explorer but once I got use to
this I never went back.
