I know this is off topic but we have no other place to try.  We have 2 old
laptops that we use for
travel, they both run Win 98SE.  They are too old for a upgrade to XP or 7
because the drivers are
not available.  AVG & Avest the last of the AV venders who supported 98 and now
they to have
dropped their support.  Any help or suggestions other than upgrade our laptops.
We travel often
enough to weird places that they are frequently damaged or lost,  We had 4
laptops 8 years ago and
have lost two since then.  I now run AVG 7.5 on them but the data base is no
longer updated.  Any
help or suggestions??

The only anti-virus progam I have found for old OS' like Win98SE is Clamwin.
There may be others, but I can't find them. Try:

Which is about as effective as Notepad.

Eset NOD32 Antivirus 2 (payware)
has a version for "Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME":

Maybe you could try this?
(I use version 4.2.71 on Windows 7)

I know you said without upgrading, but I'm about to try this. It says it
will
work on a system with ME.  I love that they give you an option so you
don't have
to install it to try it, you can make a boot CD and run off of that to see
if
you can like it and if the programs you need will run, or if the programs
they
offer to replace them can read your documents! If you click "Show Me How"
on
number 2, it will show you how to download to a CD

My friends have been bugging me to try it, so I'm going to do it some time
in
the next couple of days. I've been too busy "discussing" politics :)
