Norton 2006 vs IE7 Symantec customer service sucks!

After installing IE7, my Norton Antivirus 2006 quit working. I called
Symantec customer No-service and got a woman that I could not understand
a thing she said. Got another rep who didn't seem to know what was going
on although I could understand about half of his broken English. After
we went round and round for about 10 minutes trying to trouble shoot the
problem, I mentioned IE7 and he said 2006 won't work with it. Now the
only available fix is to buy Norton 2007 or upgrade for about 40 bux.

When my current subscription runs out, Bye-Bye Norton!

Re: Norton 2006 vs IE7 Symantec customer service sucks!

There are two things:

A: Norton does suck, but Symantec actually stopped driving their
Ferrais for once to actually improve the product.  2007 Edition has
improved by over 300%.

B: Screw that bullshit. Get Trend Micro - 24/7 Customer Support, And
they actually speak English:

Yep. That's what I recommend (and install) for my clients. I learned to
appreciate the Trend Micro products from using their Officescan Corporate
Edition AV. Good stuff. Pc-cillon for stand-alone, Officescan for networks.
Works great.

I have NIS 2006 and I held off installing IE7. This week I noticed several
"program" updates during NIS' Live Update in addition to the usual virus
definitions. After that I bit the bullet and installed IE7 (I read that the
uninstall back to IE6 worked well). Three days later they still both seem to
work together like a charm. I am having no problems like other users (and
IE7 beta users) were having with NAV/NIS. I suspect that the recent NIS
program updates dealt with IE7 issues. But other posters are correct:
getting information from the support section of Symantec's web site about
this is frustrating.

This link is also interesting: a free upgrade for NIS2006 users or I am
missing something here?

Too bad I didn't hear about it from Symantec customer no-service.

Re: Norton 2006 vs IE7 Symantec customer service sucks!

Hi Dave,

After you initially install NIS 2007, please go to the Norton 2007
Update Center and select the BEGIN button.

http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/support/special/upgrade2007/index.jsp

It will download for FREE the Norton Internet Security 2007 Add-on
Pack:

1. Norton AntiSpam - Automatically filters out annoying and dangerous
fraudulent or phishing emails from your email in-box.

2. Norton Parental Control - Blocks access to Web sites not suitable
for children.

3. Confidential Information Blocking - Alerts you if unauthorized
sensitive personal information is being sent out over the Internet via
email, instant messaging or Web pages.

4. Ad Blocking - Keeps banner ads and pop-up and pop-under windows off
the screen for faster Web browsing.

Hope this helps.
