NOD32 vs Kaspersky

Threaded View
Soon I have to get new AV software for two of my computers. I've come down
to NOD32 or Kaspersky.

They both appear to be of the best, but can anyone offer comments on why one
rather than the other in terms of effectiveness. NOD32's website shows it as
outperforming Kaspersky and everything else (of course) but Kaspersky
doesn't seem to bother with comaprisons.

I can see that for NOD32 you need  a separate licence for each computer, and
that's no problem if it's the best choice. But can't see whether Kaspersky
offer reductions for more than one licence.

Many thanks

I've been using NOD32 for about 3 years and tried Kaspersky a couple of
times. I've always reverted to NOD32 - because it is a lot more resource
friendly on my 3yr old PC.

However,   Recently I've noticed my PC becoming slower and slower. I put it
down to the recent flurry of Security patches for XP Pro.

I've been monitoring the size of programs running in memory and noticed
NOD32 seemed to be using a lot more memory than I thought it should.

I uninstalled it and am running Antvir at the moment... my PC is flying
again.

have you tried uograding NOD32 to the latest version, 2.7? Free upgrade to
registered users.

I'm in a position to compare NOD32 and The latest version of Kaspersky,
although the comparison is not entirely fair. I'm running NOD32 on my main
(newer machine) and Kaspersky (six month trial version)on my stand-by
machine (older and slower) which I use afor testing applications
mainly.Kaspersky is very much slower than carrying out a complete system
scan than NOD32 on the other machine even allowing for that older machine
being older and slower. But I can't directly prove that. It does however
makes its presence felt much more than NOD32 which I really do not notice
in operation. Kasperssky is *very* thorough and it is very confidence
inspiring. But then so is NOD32, but faster carrying out a full system
scan.

Conclusions: both are excellent and any choice between them will be very
much a case of personal preferences I think, possibly based on some quite
trivial feature! But you really can't go wrong with either of them. Horses
for courses, in other words. :-)

Roy

I gave up on Kaspersky v6x after a month.
No matter what features I had running, it slowed my d/ling tremendously.
Using DU meter, and d/ling with KIS running, my downloads of big files
was very slow compared to what I had been getting before I installed
Kas. As soon as I closed the pgm the d/l speed went back to normal for
my DSL connection.
Even turning off all features, it was still interfering. I aslo thought
it was slow in scanning.
My 2 Cents.

Well everyone has a different experience I guess.  I've had no such
problems with KIS.

Anyone know why?

Re: NOD32 vs Kaspersky

Those AV comparitives seemingly are quite exhaustive.  Is there any real
data on system loading / resource usage of AV products to be found? That
would be a real consideration when selecting between AV products that have
overall detection scores within a tenth of a percent or so of each other.

Kaspersky just released 6.0.1.411 which is MP1 which I think is a
improvement from 6.0.0.303. NOD32 and KAV are a good choice but when it
comes to trojans KAV has the edge.

I use NOD32 on a number of PCs. I just renewed my subscription for 4
machine license. I have Kaspersky on my main PC as a backup for
occasional on demand scans.

Kaspersky takes forever to do a manual scan but it's very thorough,
that's why I use it.

The latest version 2.7 NOD32 seems to be a little faster for running  on
access and on demand scans. It also updates faster than the previous
version.

NOD32 still has a small footprint but "feature sprawl" is starting to
creep in.

Chas.

Totally agree about the 'feature sprawl'. I admit to having an old (3years)
PC. NOD32 is slowly getting just a little bloated - ok, not any were as much
as some AV programs, but it's starting to show on my PC.

I removed NOD 2.7 and put Antivir on my PC and it's given it a new life - a
lot faster in every respect.

Still a bit loathe to dump NOD32 - its never let me down; guess it's time
for a new PC.
