Nod32 scan e-mail?

Do you have a question? Post it now! No Registration Necessary.  Now with pictures!

Threaded View
I have just downloaded the trial version of Esset's NOD32, getting rid
of AVG free edition. Once thing I have noticed is that the interface
is not so easy to maneuver as AVG.

Does NOD32 scan incoming e-mail?

Thanks,

You've dowloaded and installed a poduct which you haven't bothered to
research? Yes, the IMON module takes care of that, provided you've
configured it to do so.

EMON monitors e-mail transactions, not IMON.

IMON monitors Internet port 80 traffic.

No, you don't understand. EMON monitors IMAP Accounts. IMON monitoes POP3
accounts. You do know the difference?

I was just going by what the CNET review said:

"Looking within the Control Center console, we found that AMON monitors
changes made to the overall file system, and DMON monitors documents; EMON
monitors e-mail transactions, and IMON monitors Internet port 80 traffic. "

There's the problem Cath; a C/NET review :)

The Wilders Forum is a much better source of information.

FYI AMON doesn't just monitor /changes/, it monitors reads as well. I think
it's also in charge of detecting malware that is currently running and
dealing with it.

DMON monitors Microsoft Office documents, to be more exact. (Which I might
as well do adding yet more to this thread :-)

IMON does not just monitor port 80 traffic. It monitors all outgoing and
incoming internet traffic. If it detects that malware is being downloaded
or sent it will warn you/stop it depending on your settings. It also has a
list of banned web sites which it prevents a web browser from going to.

IMON also replaces some types of malware in web sites with a warning page.
POP3, which one could say is "normal" email is checked, outgoing and incoming.

optikl is correct - the official NOD32 forums are on Wilders:

Yes, I did research it in a sense. I went to
http://www.av-comparatives.org/ and saw that NOD32 was far superior to
the paid version of AVG, so I can imagine how lacking the free version
must be. I just was not sure about the e-mail scanning.

Thanks for your help.

The free evaluation version of NOD32 has all the features of the paid
version except that it expires in 30 days.

EMON only works with MS Outlook and Microsoft Exchange Extension
compliant mail clients. It doesn't work with Outlook Express.

Here's a link to Wilders Security Forums that walks you through
installing and configuring NOD32:
