McAfee and Internet connection.

MacAfee has some kind of protocol installed on the network cards on my
Vista and Win 7 machines at work. The machines are having all kind of
connection problems to sites, with 'page cannot be displayed'. There are
XP machines that can go to the same sites,  and they have no problems.

I have a Vista machine at home, and I use Nod32. The machine has no
protocol installed on its network card by Nod32,  and it also has no
problems connecting to sites.

I have issued Netsh winsock reset on the machines, and I have also
issued ipconfig /dnsflush which have not corrected the problems. I have
run diagnostic tools that show no connectivity problems. Users who have
the Vista or Win 7 machines report the same issues. Those I have talked
to about the connection issues have the same problems.

So can MacAFee be causing connection issues like this? A page may work
onetime, and you come back to the same page and no go. Some sites and
their pages just wont work at all.

You didn't answer the question. I am the admin on the machines. I have
to tell tech support/helpdesk what's going on, as the have no clue. I
have been in IT since 1971 and on the MS platform since 1996, as a MS
platform programmer.

Being an admin on the machines is NOT the same as when I say "contact your
administrator".
Have a "tech support/helpdesk" technician dispatched have them remote in and
examine the
problem.

McAfee is one of the least reliable and buggiest anti-malware programs
available. That's why it's bundled with so many systems - it's about the
only way McAfee can sell it.

My advice is to get rid of it, and use NOD, Vipre, even Windows
security, etc. (Actually, I'm surprised you have McAfee on the Vista
machines, I was under the impression Vista came with Windows security.)

Lets go back to what I quoted... "...Vista and Win 7 machines at work."

So presumably we are NO talking retail we are talking about Enterprise v8.50i ~
v8.70i
which is a totally different product than what is "bundled" in the retail market
and if it
is Eterprise, we can also presume it is managed via ePO.

BTW:  Vista only comes with Windows Defender which isn't that much of a shield
of
protection.

However, MS has included the option to install MSE with Windows updates.
Quite a point of contention for some vendors.

It could be, why don't you ask them? Support is, after all, the value of
an AV programs' cost.

I'm just guessing that an HTTP proxy might have the same timing problems
as the SMTP and POP proxies do. They may be able to suggest acceptable
configuration changes, since they would know how much protection a
particular feature actually offers.

I think the problem is MacAfee.  And I will ask them to remove it and
find out if the problems stops.

It's just like at another place I worked where the workstations were
mis-configure to run VS.  VS was blowing-up and no one in the company I
contracted in knew why, until I pointed out.
