reinstalled, same thing happens, anyone else having this issue?

Oh dear God http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=124965

Maybe I should just depend on Avira and try out Super Anti Spyware and
call it a day?

I would just uninstall it and then install it again. Only takes a few
minutes and it will probably work. If you have the paid version, be sure to
keep your license number.

The last post in that forum post is dated April 25.  The topic was
closed (as fixed).  So what makes you think you are having the same
problem?  Just how LONG have you waited (in days) to see if
MalwareBytes starts to update okay?  Shit happens, things break, and
it takes time to shovel or repair.  You make no mention how long this
problem has existed for you.

You also don't mention WHICH version of MalwareBytes that you have.
Is it the free (with no background monitoring) or payware (with
resident monitor, if enabled) version?  You do know that concurrently
running multiple active AV monitors can cause problems, right?  If you
have some other AV program (which you do since you mention later about
using Avira) then you'll have to decide which one, Avira or
MalwareBytes, will be active at a time.  You can install multiple AV
programs but only one should be active and the other(s) used as
passive (manually instigated) scanners.

Some AV programs won't remain quiescent for use as manual-scan
programs.  The SuperAntiSpyware (SAS) that you mention will install
system hooks which will remain resident at all times although you
configure SAS to not load at boot and to not be resident.  That is,
something of SAS is always present even when you told it to be
inactive.  Those hooks can conflict with other security software.

With ALL your other security programs inactive (disabled), uninstall
and reinstall Malwarebytes and update it.  Then decide which one of
those multiple security programs will be the constantly active one
with the rest as passive to be ran only when you choose to run them.

Even with Avast Free left active, MalwareBytes updates okay for me;
however, I'm using the free version of MalwareBytes that is missing
their background scanner.  Don't know which version of MalwareBytes
that you have (free or paid) since you didn't mention it.

I'm using the free and latest version of Malwarebytes, also the Avira
scan came up with no issues thankfully, maybe I shouldn't worry too much
as I've never had a problem that I really needed MB, I'm pretty careful
when it comes to web browsing.

MBAM is an antispyware type program and should cause no problems running
actively with most, if not all, anti-virus programs, or so I 've heard.
Of course the free version of MBAM will not run actively, but only
on-demand.
It is quite amazing at how long it takes my paid SAS to update totally,
compared to my free MBAM to update totally on my desktop PC Win7 HP 64bit/
SAS takes around 30-45sec to complete it's update and MBAM (free) takes less
than 15 sec to start, dl, install and then quit the program.
I have the Pro version of MBAM on a laptop running XP 32bit and that takes
close to 1 minute to do a total update. Does the Pro version take longer
because it includes website monitoring, or is it just the computer
difference? Both are while using the same wired internet connection.

If it is a program update (and not merely a signature/database update)
then part of the "update" will be to restart the program (well, exit
the existing one and load the new version).

Naw, these were just definition updates.
I was just kind of curious if the paid version of MBAM (running in real time
mode) updated slower than the free version. Also, I was wondering why SAS
seems to dl its def slower (aprox same size dl) and install it slower than
MBAM.
No big deal overall.
Thanks,

The Pro version of MBAM does incremental updates.  Thus if the product
updates Today it would have a version number such as...

v2013.07.25.05

and if I later get an update such as...

v2013.07.25.06

I will only download those signatures that were made between the daily
version .05 and .06 which could be a couple of Kilobytes.

The free version would download the entire signature base which be several
Megabytes.

Well, the free version dl's and installs the new definitions over 3 times
quicker. Course, it may be that it takes longer for the several incremental
defs to dl (perhaps due to searching) than just dl'ing the entire signature
does on a fast connection.
Whada ya think?  :)
The entire signature base of around 6MB dl's much faster than the
incremental defs do on the same wired internet connection.

I'd say you are adding OS latency for the process of getting updates and
installing them.

I don't see that.

I did move the pro mbam over to my Win7 PC and it is just as quick updating
as the free version was.
So, it most likely was that the laptop with xp and slower cpu was the
bottleneck.
You were right again.
Yes, I did transfer the mbam license according to mbam's suggested method.

Hmm. Incremental updates is only in the pro version. The freebie still
downloads the entire ref file, as if you didn't have one.

I'm unsure how reliable the pro version incremental updates are at this
point. As if you wish to download a full ref file, this could be an issue.
I'll have to look into it.
