Looking to remove factory installed programs

The book company sent me a Dell laptop.  I just opened it up this morning.
It has McAfee software installed.   I would like to remove the software
completely.  Our school has an intranet system.

Something about conflicts. (Over my head)

Thanks in advance

I looked at the newsgroup for Mcafee and either I typed it wrong or just
don't have a clue on what to do.

just
Goto
START | SETTINGS | CONTROL PANEL | ADD-REMOVE GROUPS  and find  the
McaFee entry. Click on REMOVE and hopefully most of the pgm will be
removed. The listing should disappear from ADD-REMOVE LIST.

Afterwards, go to the McaFee install directory (probably something like
C:\McaFee... and delete the folder.
This is the proper way to remove any pgm.

Yeah, well, when dealing with anything produced by Symantec/McAfee you will
also need to clean out the registry entries left over by their incomplete
uninstall.

Sometimes you might want to disable any running portions of the program
you hope to remove first just in case the uninstaller eats error messages
about file handles being in use (unable to delete).
