Linux LiveCD *does* come in handy, I have to admit just once

Tried a Kaspersky "LiveCD" rootkit detector that uses Linux.  Why?
Because loading a foreign OS like Linux from the CD reader is better
at detecting rootkits, which mimic your Windows kernel, than a windows
based rootkit detector that lives on your hard drive.

So Linux is not all bad--it's good for this one limited purpose.

That article was written back in 2008 Jun and has a link to a 2008
Kaspersky .iso which is still on their site.

Avira has a current linux based boot disk

... which can update itself and also check the boot sector.

Trying to start a flame war?  The link suggests, incredibly, that even
Windows users do not need anti-malware protection.  While it's true I
can't remember the last time, as a Windows user, I ever caught a virus
(I think it was the early 1990s), or malware (some program I installed
I had to uninstall a couple of years ago), I think this is going a bit
too far.

Which can identify but NOT automatically remove viruses?
The F-secure screen shot is worrisome.
I have several false positives on my system.  Summarily
removing them would be undesirable.
I'd like to choose which get deleted.

It is not possible to negotiate terms with virus and malware
writers. You must reformat and re-install.

In one place I know of something got in and then spread and
then some evil bar steward came in and wiped the entire servers clean.
It brought a 100+ strong company to its knees.

Would you take that risk?

Your average windummy is a fawn and has not even the
basic skills to understand what a fly by infection means.

Actually, all partitions must be nuked.
You forgot about boot sector viruses.

Please don't claim to speak on the Vxers or ex vsers halfs. You aren't
one of us, now or formally. And no, reformat and reinstall isn't always
necessary.

drive by download. Strickly speaking, infection is a viral term.

As a former virus writer and certified technician who retired from
blackhat arts 11 years ago; I tend not to care. You have an opinion and
only that.

You are dealing with the lunatic 7 "The President of COLA" and something
about it being the inventor of the year one year. The clown is a sick soul.

Do you have the picture as to what you are dealing with?

LOL. See, you can tell people the truth and they still don't believe
you. Just like in the pirates of the carribean movie. "I'm going to
take your ship. I said no lies." What happens? he takes the ship.
hehehehe.

Yeah, that's why COLA and COLS are for flaming:  lot's of low-lying
fruit (cakes) to pick (on) for trolls like me.  They always fall for
the bait too...then complain about trolling.  Either they are too
stupid or just asking for it.  This clown Natural Philosopher is one
of the more denser of the participants, as you can tell.

Golly. And you think that movie is historical fact too I suppose?

Your whole posting style and use of language informs anyone who is
experienced as to exactly what sort of person you are.
