KAV7 will not work with ZoneAlarm why?

Hi,

I just downloaded the trial of KAV7 but the installer said it cannot
load because ZA is running and recommended that I remove ZA. Why is
this? I could understand it if I were installing the KA Internet
security product because obviously I can't have two firewalls running
at once but I though KAV was anti-virus only so if I remove ZA won't I
have no firewall?

TIA

I use KAV7 with XP using the Microsoft firewall with no problems.

Can't say, but I've noticed that some anti-malware products play nice
with each other, and some don't. The designers/programmers would be able
to tell you why, but I don't think they will.

For some reason, I think KAV likes to be installed before installing ZA.
If you're willing, you could de-install ZA, install KAV, then install
ZA.  You could also seek advice from the Kaspersky forum, where very
knowledgeable users are extremely responsive and helpful.  The home user
protection forum is at http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showforum=4

I have no association with Kaspersky but I have been a very happy user
of Kaspersky Internet Security (KAV plus a firewall and a few other
items) for a few years now.

There are many versions of ZoneAlarm.  If you're using the one that includes
antivirus that would explain why KAV7 would not install.

You should dump ZA anyway and try out Comodo Firewall.
And go buy a decent router while your at it.
We would all be more safer if you did.

KAV7 needs to be installed first, so as wilf said.. need to uninstall
ZA, then install KAV, then ZA.

For the average homeuser, the Windows Firewall in XP SP 2 does a fantastic
job at its core mission and is really all you need if you have an
'real-time' anti-virus program, [another firewall on your router or] other
edge protection like SeconfigXP and practise safe-hex.

The windows firewall deals with inbound protection and therefore does not
give you a false sense of security. Best of all, it doesn't implement lots
of nonsense like pretending that outbound traffic needs to be monitored.

Activate and utilize the Win XP SP2 built-in Firewall; Uncheck *all*
Programs and Services under the Exception tab.

Use Windows Firewall in conjunction with:
Seconfig XP 1.0
http://seconfig.sytes.net /
Seconfig XP is able configure Windows not to use TCP/IP as transport
protocol for NetBIOS, SMB and RPC, thus leaving TCP/UDP ports 135, 137-139
and 445 (the most exploited Windows networking weak point) closed.)
OR
Configuring NT-services much more secure.

They claim that it will work if you install KAV 1st than zone alarm.  I use
KAV7 and use the free Comodo firewall with great results
