Kaspersky version 7?

Threaded View
I'm interested in getting the current version of Kaspersky AV,
Version 7, (their pricing of 3 years, 3 computers for $140 seems
lower than the credible competition), but neither Cnet nor
PCWorld has reviewed this version yet.

Is Version 7 as good as Version 6, or are there any problems
with it?  Some details: it would be going onto two XP machines, one
XP Home the other XP Professional.  The second machine came with
a Symantec trial version that will need deleting, the first machine
is clean.

Thanks,
Steve

Version 7 has been better than version 6 from my perspective.  Here, I'm
talking about the full KIS as opposed to KAV but KIS does include all
the elements of KAV.   What I particularly like about Kaspersky is the
incredibly responsive Forum if you have a problem or query - there are
experts, beta testers and Kaspersky people themselves there to help.

I have no idea, I'm afraid, I think so but one could enquire via the
forum itself, I guess.

Re: Kaspersky version 7?

Thanks for the input on the chkdsk problem.  It seems they are
not planning to totally fix this before version 8.  (Whenever that
is.)  Maybe that is a negative, especially as one of my target
machines has no CD/DVD drive and I'm not sure what my procedure
is for wiping/reinstalling Windows on that machine.

Can only speak for myself but I've used 7.0 with XP for about 2 months and
have had no problems with chkdsk. It runs when needed the same as it always
has.

I'm no expert, but I upgraded from V6 to V7 two weeks ago.  One thing
I like about V7 is the email screener.

When mail is checked, a screen pops up showing the emails about to be
downloaded.  You have the option of deleting unwanted emails before
they are downloaded to your computer.  (Never noticed this option on
V6).

Also, it now much easier to find the quarrantined files.

Thanks.  I don't myself use Windows email clients, so that particular
feature is not too critical.  What I mostly need is good on-demand
scanning, and perhaps some level of realtime protection.

Thanks for that.  I thought screening was only available in KIS and not
KAV

No problem, I still can't make my mind up what protection to use on the
new PC I am building

I was thinking ZoneAlarm (free) + SpyBot S&D + Adaware + KAV. Obviously
I wouldn't need ZA if I had KIS instead, but I am still undecided about
whether KIS protection would do away with the need for Spybot and
Adaware

I used  KIS for three years and run  Spybot and Adaware periodically.

My experience has been that KIS seems to pick up everything except
that Spybot picks up doubleclick (which I understand is not
significant).  Adaware always comes up clean.

I have, perhaps unwitting, confidence that KIS is getting  all the bad
stuff.

You may wish to consider to disable the e-mail scanning function during
installation (Custom Installation on some AV apps.) as it provides no
additional protection.

In fact, most of experts (incl. Norton) believe that scanning incoming and
outgoing mail causes e-mail file corruption.
Google is your friend :)

I use KIS 7 & Thunderbird but I noticed that when I used the email
screener it added  '[!! SPAM] ' to the subject line of every email so
I turned the screener off.

Is there a way to stop it changing the subject line?

It's KIS's Anti-Spam module that does that if it thinks the email is
spam.  Either train the facility to recognise spam properly (bu going
into Anti-Spam and telling it that those emails it erroneously marked as
spam are ok.  Or, better, switch off the Anti-Spam facility - I love KIS
apart from their Anti-Spam module which I have never got to work properly.

The spam module is of no use to me.  I would like to turn it off

On the other hand, I like the email pre-screening function and would
like to retain it.

If anyone can sort out a solution it  would be much appreciated :)

Log into <https://webmail.shaw.ca/uwc/auth with your email ID and password.
You can then review the email on the server, deal with the trash and download
only the email you wish to keep.

I turned it off, and I still have the email screening feature.  So
far, six messages have come in and none has been tagged as "Spam".
Too soon to tell; I'm hoping this will work. Will report back.

I use the webmail option when travelling.  It's good for that, but too
much of a hassle to use each time mail is checked IMHO.

Cheers, Gary

My method is to set webmail as the home page of a browser.  Opening the
browser takes me to the webmail page with the login information saved.  One
click and I'm looking at the inbox and can go on from there.  IMO the best
thing about it is that spam is never downloaded.
