Here are some freebies that work really fine.

Link does not work.
I download the software from the site of the originator.

Do you see any security software?
I think the link should be:
http://freewarehome.com/System_Utilities/Security/Anti_Ads_and_Spyware_t.html
In my browser (Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.18) this shows a completely
different page.

I get the same page with either link.

So do I.

By the way, I'm using Firefox 3.0.4 for my browser. Maybe that's that's the
difference.

Look at the two links. They are different. The first will take you to
http://freewarehome.com/index.htm -- the main page at the site. The
link is a combination of two.

The second link above is to the page you really wanted.

That's a possibility. There could be a difference in how a browser
interprets the malformed first link.

I double-checked.  The first link - the one in my original post - is
exactly what I still see in Firefox for the page containing the freebie
spyware downloads.

Kind of strange, eh?

I was also using Firefox 3.0.4 albeit with a different operating system.
It also works the same for me with the latest Opera browser (two
different pages).

'Tis that.

You could try this:

- Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.30
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
- SuperAntiSpyware 4.22.1014
http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html
- Spybot Search&Destroy 1.6.0
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Why would Spyware Doctor be "the best" anti-spyware?
The combination of SAS and MBAM is better.

I don't know which ones are the very best, but you should run at least two
different ones on demand.
I use the following three programs, which are all free.
1)SuperAntispyware
2)MalWareByte's Anti-Malware
3)SpywareBlaster

PS: I liked SAS so much I paid for it. The free version will find and remove
everything the paid version does.
However, the free version is on-demand only while the paid version is
real-time protection and checks certain places upon bootup and shutdown, if
you set it that way.
The link given by jack worked fine for me, but I always download programs
from their home sites.

I have found that it does take more than one program to keep you safe.
No single program catches all the baddies.

a-squared Free caught a whole bunch of registry crud on my machine.

Ad-Aware freebie also caught some other crud.

SuperAntiSpyware caught a bunch of other malware crud.

SpywareGuard also caught a lot of stuff that the others missed.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware caught another bunch of junk.

I also use AroVox Shield,  Plus Spybot and its Tea Timer Resident
software.

So far, all this is running on my machine and getting along just fine
with my Kaspersky AV and  the Sunbelt Firewall.

Before spending money, try the freebies and see for yourself if you need
to pop for dough.

All the stuff I found on my machine was done with the freebie version of
the above programs.  Although, I have since purchased Malwarebytes and
SuperAntiSpyware.

Yep!  (But it is fun!)

Re: Is there better than spyware doctor?

In my opinion there are few better ones.

You could try

Super Anti Spyware or Malware Bytes Anti Malware they both do a good
job and you
can switch off background running processes.

Right on the ball there.  Just a 9-month old thread you replied to.
Yep, the OP is sure to be monitoring that thread, uh huh.

Did you notice Markey replied from that silly Usenet-stealing TechArena
web forum?

And he signed up and created an account just so he could do that. It was
his first-ever post -- see the 'Profile' link in the sig...   :-)
