IE Spyware

Threaded View
Somehow my Internet Explorer got new folders and links placed into MY
FAVOURITES. I can't delete then because when I right-click with my mouse for
the pull-down-menu so that I can delete them nothing happens? If I click
with the left mouse key I go to the web-site 'Open Search Web'. This same
thing happened about a year or so ago but I can't remember how I solved it?
Can anyone tell me how to delete these folders and links, as they are making
I.E. unstable?  I hope I have managed to post this correctly this time?
Thanks.

That is the problem Dave, I can't delete the folders/links because they do
not
show-up in the I.E organising list for me to delete them, and in the
pull-down folder on MY FAVOURITES if I right-click on them using my mouse
nothing happens on the LINKS and if I right-click on the FOLDERS up pops a
pull-down menu with more links to unfamiliar sites. Sorry if this is not to
clear for you but as I've said many times before I know ZILCH about fixing
computers.

Do the following.

Click Start, Run, and then type.

%userprofile%\favorites

And then click OK.

That should open your favorites folder and you should see the offending
folders and the links to delete selectively, not as the what that
"pcbutts1" troll suggested, to delete the whole folder.

If one or more of the folders or links are not delete-able from there,
then you should check the ownership of the items.

Re: IE Spyware

Delete it from this location on your system if you have 2000/XP
C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Favorites

Caution: Do NOT follow this advice.

That will delete your bookmarks/favorites.

This idiot is a malicious poster which adds nothing in these newsgroups
except for trolling and giving bad advice trying to get newbies and
unsuspecting readers in trouble.

Read the history of this lunatic here.

Re: IE Spyware

Huh? Isn't that the point?

She said delete 'it' from this location, not to delete the location (folder)
itself.

Quoted text here. Click to load it

That may be true, but the advice above is only easily misunderstood. The
ability to delete an item is not actually based on the ability of the gui file
manager program guide you to it and affect it. Once you know a location
you can usually affect it more directly and pcbutts1 only suggested a likely
location to target.

Re: IE Spyware

No.

No.

Read again what was said.
"Can anyone tell me how to delete these folders and links, as
 they are making I.E. unstable?"

Where did "Scottie" ask for the ENTIRE Favorites folder?

If the "pcbutts1" retard would have said

delete "C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Favorites\Bad folder"

Then he would have offered a genuine advice, but as it stands, and given
his history, it is obvious that he is trying to trick an unsuspecting
user to delete his or her folder.

It is true.

That was not what the "pcbutts1" retard said.

Re: IE Spyware

Quoted text here. Click to load it

Yes.

Yes.

Not at all obvious. If the offending items had been in the root directory and
pcbutts1 had suggested deleting them 'from' the root directory, would you
have interpreted that as suggesting the deletion of the root directory itself?

In your zeal to jump on pcbutts1 you have ended up looking the fool.

Yes.

Yes it is - maybe 'you' should re-read the post. 'Delete it from this location'
is not the same as 'delete this location'.

All those posts with flames from nobodies prove me right again.
The "fool" is the person who resorts to sock puppets when he is shown to
be an ass.

Nice try though.

Delusional.

Delusional.

Those you call sock puppets are regular posters to this group, and are no friend
to pcbutts1 - but they can still see when a wrong has been done.

I removed your simpleminded attempt to AUK the thread.

Nice try though, for such a simpleton.

The person No Spam is nothing but a snake in the grass and poorly undercover
at that. It takes a real genius to start exposing itself.

Re: IE Spyware

You idiot You just made an ass out yourself. Once again some numnuts tried
to prove me wrong and was mistaken.

retard that you are.
Nice try though, but better luck next time.

I've watched this thread and while I hate to do it, I have to say that
PCBUTTS1 did give the proper advice, you just had to understand it and
not jump to assumptions:

1) delete "IT" from this location

That means delete the bookmark, not the entire folder, even my mother
could not confuse the instruction.

I don't see how "IT" could have been confused with the ENTIRE FOLDER
unless you were just jumping to the assumption that anything pcbutts1
posts is crap - while it's mostly crap, he is able to get a few things
right.

I think you own him a Retraction.

I noticed you used the word troll here.

You better know the definition of what a troll means before you label
someone with it.

You better know what it means to be trolled and what lengths trolls will go
try to discredit someone.

You better do your homework, read properly before you respond with such
useless crap like yours.

Quoted text here. Click to load it

You either are an idiot, or you are pcbutts1's sock puppet.

Read the link in the post that you have responded to.

Or even better, ask around and read some message when pcbutts1
intentionally gave bad info trying to get others in trouble, and where
he harassed software authors and ignored laws and copyright information
to disrupt alt.privacy.spyware.
If that is not a troll in your world, then you need educate yourself
instead of blindly copying the garbage that web sites that have no
credibility post.
