It's kind of like having an encrypted letter in a safe, and having
someone attempt to test the strength of the encryption. He walks in the
room, can't open the safe, and reports to you that he can't read the
letter - the conclusion that the encryption is strong at this point
would be erroneous.

I am saying you appear to be a whacky nut-job that thinks MS is incapable of
having an AV product because of who they are.

And you just proved my point.

Your a new poster here.  Every once in a while, some m$ paid patsy
shows up to claim their software is good, and I suspect you are
another silly m$ employee.

You're also obviously new to usenet

Eventually, I expect you'll learn to trim your articles, of you'll
find yourself plonked by all of the regular posters here.

M$ has purchased another anti virus application.  I expect, within
a year or two, they will give up trying to maintain it, just like
they did before, with MSAV.

I've gotten so frustrated trying to maintain systems where the
fools who designed them made the mistake of using M$ software,
that, yes, I really dislike the company.

For you to call me an idiot for blaming m$ for producing crapware,
instead of good software, just shows who the real idiot is.

I find it amusing, that you are afraid to use your real name.

I'm laughing at your silly reply.

I guess when it comes to anti-virus, like anything else, you get what you pay
for. That is why I don't use free anti-virus software.

That is a often repeated misunderstanding (or prejudice ?).

Many, many people (millions of users) use Avira Antivir, Avast or AVG
(all free products) to their complete satisfaction and never have a
problem.

And did you notice Microsoft Security Essentials, which is another
*free* anti-virus solution, this time from Microsoft.

Yes, millions do. But it's not prejudice or a misunderstanding. I look at it
this way. If I am using something for free, if it doesn't update I have nothing
to complain about. It was free. But if I am using a paid product, the software
company is more likely to ensure that I get those updates when I'm supposed to.

I understand your view is "a few years old".
(your reasoning is now obsolete.)
Perhaps reading in the forums of the producers can give you a different
view of nowadays ?

Yeah, well. So am I. And I failed to mention, the primary reason that I don't
use free anti-virus is that NOD32 isn't free.

Re: I Had Avast now Avira Free... Cannot Download AV File Updates

I use NOD32 as my "real-time" av-program.
I have Avira Antivir installed as my "on-demand" av-program for a
"second-opinion".
(and also to monitor the updates of Avira Antivir.)
 ;-)

This choice was (mainly) based on the tests of AV-Comparatives.
Summary reports for several years:

How did you come to prefer NOD32?

Adequate detection rate and low on resources. For all I know there may be a few
that are low on resource usage now, but back when I started using it years ago
it was not the norm. Most were bloatware. I do like the interface as well in
both the 3.0 and 4.0 versions.
