I can't find a version number in the UI, but it's the latest.

I'd like tb able to turn it off/on so I can see what it's doing
to the performance of this ancient Inspiron 9400 (1.66 GHZ with
only a half-gig of RAM).

Intended use is just as a IP camera server - no email... and
maybe there's a rationale for running it naked without any
anti-virus and just keeping an image of the "good" system handy
for a quick restore.

In you Taskbar, at the bottom on the left, there's the avast!- icon (an
orange ball with a white 'a' in it).

Right click > avast! shields control > disable ...

Arrrghhhh!....

I popped it first thing... but, upon not seeing "Disable" did not
think to drill down.

Thanks!!!

Avast probably not feasible on such a machine. Avira or MSE might be better,
but to be honest both are going to be difficult with real time scanning
enabled.
