I updated my AV today from Trend-Micro PC-cillin 14 to Trend-Micro Internet
Security 16.6 (it was free and I was having issues with the PC-cillin
application).  The new application has a built in firewall, which I
currently have turned on.  Is anyone familiar with this product and how does
it compare to the MS firewall that is part of Vista Home Premium (which is
currently turned off).

Re: Firewalls

I have Norton firewall running which seems to 'catch' a lot of attempted
attacks on my PC.

Is there any point in having a second firewall running (Zone alarm perhaps)
simultaneoulsy for 'double' protection. Might they interfere with each other

Absolutely not. Two software firewalls should not run simultaneously
because they will conflict each other : Computer crash, lose internet
connection , lower protection level.

But you can run one software firewall + one hardware firewall at the
same time.

Hardware firewall is quite expensive, compared to software one.

NAT router with SPI ( stateful packet inspection ) feature will provide
you pretty good protection. NAT/SPI router is not actually a hardware
firewall, it has firewall function. recommends using a firewall router:

Famous router brands: Linksys , Netgear, D-link, Belkin , 3Com ,
Buffalo, SMC

I am not very good at networking, if you have further questions
concerning routers, please feel free to ask other people.

You are not going to find anything better than the Vista FW and Vista in
itself due to the advanced features the FW and Vista are using.
