Finally removed that update shield

Well, I promised to get back with Dave and others; here's the verdict.

As you know, I've had some conversations regarding trojans that attacked my
computer recently.  IE was hijacked, and there was a toolbar with shields on
it, inviting me to install updates and virus software.  These shields were
also all over the desktop.  The dealer removed most of it, but some was
still there.  Dave gave me some information and instructions; I followed
them and some files were removed, but there was this "update" shield that
was still in the lower right corner.  No matter what I ran, no matter how
many times I've cleaned the system, that one little shield was still there.

In the midst of all this, I just changed ISP's.  This was due to another,
unrelated problem I was having with Earthlink.  Although I wanted the system
to be as clean as possible before the migration, that update shield was
still there.

When setting up the new system I had a question, so I called Verizon
support.  The rep linked to my screen so she could help with the install.
She took one look at that shield and said, "Oh, that's from Microsoft."
AARRGGHHHH!  I clicked on it and ran the updates, and everything's fine.

La dee dah dee dah . . .

Everyone, thanks for your help.
