To All:

I recently got an email from CA about eTrust® EZ Antivirus being
replaced by Anti-Virus 2007.  I have used CA AV's since the Inoculate
days and I have pleased with the low resource use.  I did you NAV for a
while but it was too much of a resource hog so I went back to CA.

Any comments on the new CA Anti-Virus 2007?

Thanks,

Steve

CA vs AVG vs Panda vs Kasperski vs F-Protect

I installed Panda on one of our older (386) computers at work and it tripled
boot time!!! I reinstalled AVG immediately and all is well.
Since AVG is not free, I need a substitue asap. Which is better for an OLDER
machine (besides AVG)?  -CA, Kasperski, or F-Protect????
I need a low resource AV. :-)

**Do NOT install the AOL security toolbar, most experts consider it to be
spyware**.

AVG - Grisoft

It is considered imprudent to have two fully installed
anti virus applications installed at the same time.

Good luck :)

I found Panda REALLY to slow down my machine.
I threw it out.

Go for the Kaspersky / AOL product if you want the best possible free
option you can get which uses low resources.  Or pay for the full
Kaspersky offering for even better protection.

One option is participate "beta" testing,

I wonder do other vendors have something like that..

I tried NOD32 and it gives my machine the best stability.

Steve,

I recently tried CA AV 2007 on a Windows ME machine with 512 MB RAM, and
it appears to be more resource intensive than previous releases.  In
part, this seems related to the wrapping of the AV product in a security
center console from which you can also manage CA's firewall, spyware,
and spam solutions.  I noticed a definite slowdown on the system after
the computer was up for 4-5 hours.

With the 7.2 CA AV product, the console was there, but it was possible
to stop it from running at start up.  I tried that with CA AV 2007 and
doing so removed all access to the AV application from the system tray.
I removed CA AV 2007 and went back to 7.2.

Hmm, will have to look into that.  It seems to be running fine here on
XP.

Hi, Heather,

I haven't tried it on an XP machine.  Avast has worked well for me on
XP.  I did notice at startup on ME, CA AV 2007 was using 3-4% more
system resources than the 7.2 version.
