An unattended bootable CD image with the McAfee console antivirus scanner

Here (http://avcd.hit.bg /) you can find a 115 MB bootable PicoXP SP3 CD
image with the McAfee console antivirus scanner that starts automatically
and will clean any detected malware (also on systems where Vista is
installed). System requirements: 128 MB of RAM or more (not tried on
systems with less RAM but might work). I would not be able to update it
daily as McAfee do with their virus definition files but will try to update
it every 10 days hoping that it will still be useful to as many people as
possible.

Last update: 19 January 2009
Definition files version: 5500.

Enjoy!

Before making my CD, I've tried a similar CD called the Ultimate Boot CD,
which has AVIRA "on board", and it couldn't detect anything. By contrast,
McAfee detected and removed the W32/Sality virus plus a couple of "Trojan
horses". Therefore I decided to offer the others what worked for me... :)

While I disinfected the PC using a Windows PE boot CD and the command line
scanner on an USB flash drive, I thought it'd be much more convenient if I
combine them into one CD, using the ultra-lightweight PicoXP which doesn't
even support any GUI, just console programs like the McAfee virus scanner.

While this scanner is freely available it needs a good environment to work
in, and I think that PicoXP is the lightest possible one and therefore the
best choice. I hope that the combination I made is useful for other people too.

My best too!

while it's always nice to hear about someone developing bootable av
tools, what really interests me is this picoxp - i'd never heard of that
before... thanks for the heads up...

You are welcome! PicoXP was written by Peter Schlang. It's a script for the
WinBuilder, which in turn was written by Nuno Brito. The old name of PicoXP
was NanoXP and who knows, some day it may become even FemtoXP or AttoXP ;-)

Re: Bootable antivirus CD

i've tried to use your bootable CD image (on a USB microdrive) but it
keeps
saying there is an "error loading operating system" must it be
loaded on a CD to
work properly? or is there something else that i am
missing? additional info:
the computer is running XP. the trojans are
freezing windows when it loads.
thanks for any help!

Why not try one or both of the following free programs, if your computer
will boot.
1)SuperAntiSpyware (SAS for short)
2)MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (MBAM for short)

Re: Bootable antivirus CD

thats the problem though - the computer won't boot properly. once it
gets into WINDOWS, the computer freezes.

F-Secure offers a Linux based rescue CD that you may want to try...
See:

for details.

Sorry about that. Did you try putting it on a CD? Sounds like the quickest
thing to try. Just make sure you BIOS is set to boot from the CD first.
I know nothing about USB microdrives.
Hope things work out for you.

PS: If you do get it to boot up, try the two free programs I suggested.
Dl, install, update and then run each one separately until they find no
more.
It helps to empty your Recycle Bin and to delete your TempInternetfiles and
temp files first.
