Avira & SAS

Avira keeps telling me 'TR/Spy.Spatet.BC' was found in file C:\Program
Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SUPERANTISPYWARE.EXE. I assume this is a false
positive from Avira. I asked SAS about it, but no response yet. (This
is Saturday afternoon.)

I don't see any mention of such a thing in this NG. My experience with
several antivirus programs is that 100 percent of the time these
warnings are either a dead horse or a false positive. In other words
I've got zero confidence in antivirus programs. But ... could it be?
Maybe my SAS was indeed hijacked?

Thanks, Beauregard. That's a pretty active group, alt.privacy.spyware.
But most of the action looks like spam. Well, I'll follow along for a
while and see what transpires.

Thanks, David. That's what I suspected all along.

I've suffered more at the hands of antivirus programs than I ever have
from viruses. They get right down into the hypothalamus of your
operating system and then start messing up your brains with false
alarms. Damned AVG once went down into the depths of a long-ago
stashed archive of mine and declared an ancient copy of command.com to
be "infected". Jeez.

Updating SAS to v5.0.1118 will avoid the false positives.

I've got 5.0.1116. I asked SAS for an update, but a later version
wasn't forthcoming. Anyways, the false positive seems to have
disappeared as of this morning.

If you go to the SAS website and dl their latest version, it will probably
say 5.0.1108 but it will turn out to be 5.0.1118.
I just uninstalled SAS (ver 5.0.1116 using their uninstall progam) and
reinstalled the one I dl'd from SAS and got Ver 5.0.118.
Not sure why SAS hasn't included the 1118 ver notification in their update
program.

SAS states it is version 5.0.1108, but the download is version 5.0.1118.

Version 5.0.1118 appeared 2011-08-13

Thanks Fred,
I already uninstalled SAS and installed the '5.0.1108' pro version from the
SAS website a couple of days ago. It did indeed install ver 5.0.1118.
