Avira Free latest version - incompatible software?

I've just updated Avira Antivir Free. During installation I had
recommendations to uninstall 3 other programs (Spybot, Malaware,
SuperAntiSpyware) because they are "incompatible". I don't recall this in
previous installations? For now I've ignored the message and left those
programs installed.

Anyone have any more info on this please? How serious are these
incompatibilities and what are the likely impacts?

The issue isn't really incompatibility, it is just a recommendation. I
used to run Avira with Malwarebytes real-time scanning and never had a
problem. I believe the AV companies are trying to add better malware
protection and avoid conflict with competitor's products as well as
gain their market share by providing an "all-in-one" solution.

I have found that Malwarebytes does a superior job of identifying
malware then any AV program and continue to use it with my AV software.

It's good practice to temporarily disable any resident running scanners
while installing another anti-malware app. However, *uninstalling* the
on-demand scanners the OP listed has never been a requirement or even a
recommendation IME. I too have also had very good luck running a
conventional anti-virus (MSE in most cases) alongside MBAM Pro on the
machines I support. I kind of shot myself in the foot in one respect --
I make my pocket money cleaning up (mostly) home users' infected boxes,
and since I started installing MBAM Pro in conjunction with a
conventional anti-virus my repeat business has been reduced to a
