Avira AntiVir Premium is the product of the year Fri, 12 December 2008
AV-Comparatives.org awards Avira’s solution for home users as the best
anti-virus solution of the year 2008
Tettnang, 12 December 2008 – The anti-virus software testing specialists at
AV-Comparatives e.V. have chosen Avira AntiVir Premium as the best anti-virus
solution of 2008. The demands of the international test center headquartered
in Austria are extremely high. All products tested have to prove their
above-average detection rate over several periodical tests and special
attention is given to proactive detection. The test also requires that there
should be virtually no false alarms and that scanning does not affect the
computer’s performance. Crashes, system interruptions and annoying software
errors are some of the other knock-out criteria for AV-Comparatives. Avira
passed all tests with flying colors.

Re: Avira 2008
The premium version is excellent and with its Webguard and mail scanner,
I'm beginning to think that resident antispyware programs and a software
firewall are unnecessary (as long as one has a router). It would nice if
it would incorporate the same form of bootscan that Avast employs.
One thing, though. Avira didn't actually rate that high with Virus
positives for uninfected files.
Secure and Kaspersky each returned one false positive.
That said, Norton stil seems to get high ratings from all review sites, and
by many accounts is getting lighter on resouces. Can anyone deny that
Symantec is still THE site to go to for researching how to manually remove
a trojan or virus?
Which site is given more weight in the field of Antivirus reviews - AV-
Comparatives or Virus Bulletin.
