AVG Free & Win98se & Outlook 2000 Question

My question has to do with getting AVG Free (latest version) to scan my
email using Windows 98se and Outlook 2000. The program reports that
email scanning is enabled, but there is no evidence to support it.

The program installed just fine in Windows 98se with no errors. However,
I get absolutely NO confirmation that my incoming/outgoing email is
being scanned for Viruses.

Incidentally, I have AVG Free on another computer that uses Windows XP &
Outlook XP and I get the certification message attachments along with a
small status box when receiving email that lets me know that the message
has been scanned.

But NOT under Windows 98se & Outlook 2000.

Can anyone offer me any advice?

Thanks,

James

Send yourself a virus and see what happens.

S'far as I remember, AVG only has a plugin to work with Outlook Express,
and not Outlook.

Oh. You mean those advertisements in the email?  Turn that off, please.
Do note that there is no way the program can "certify" anything, as you
may be infected with some new virus not in their database. That's all it
is, is annoying advertisements.

Further, there isn't really any need to scan "incoming" (or "outgoing")
as long as you keep the real-time scanner running. It will prevent you
from activating any virus you may receive.

Re: AVG Free & Win98se & Outlook 2000 Question

You may also want to uninstall AVG and then get AVAST

I have used both and run into similar problems.  AVAST works much
better in my opinion.

And Avira AntiVir is better than both Avast and AVG  :-)
