AVG 7 Free and Priority Updates.

Just recently, every definitions update I receive is classified as
'Priority' and is usually in the region of 1000 plus Kb. On each
occasion I need to restart the PC to fully install the download. Is
this happening to everyone or is there a setting I can alter to make a
difference? I am wondering if somehow I am receiving the whole list
every time instead of the latest definition(s) addition.

That's possible- most of my updates have been small - I'd download a new
copy of the complete AV and uninstall the old, then install the new one.

Re: AVG 7 Free and Priority Updates.

Some of the program updates (not the virus list update) require that the
computer be restarted after the update.  But after the restart, the program
just repeats the requirement to restart again and again.  This is caused by
a trigger file that fails to be deleted after the update.  The solution is:

Go to the Windows Explorer, on the C drive, located the folder "Programs
Files", then the subfolder "Grisoft", then the subfolder "AVG FREE".

(C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free)

In this folder locate the file named "WAIT4SD" and delete it. (See note)

Then for Windows XP users: Go to:

(C:\Documents & Settings\All Users\Application Data\Grisoft\AVG7DATA)

For Windows 98 or Me users Go to:

(C:\Windows\Application Data\AVG7)

In this folder delete all the files and folders.

Then reboot your computer and do the AVG update again.  This time it should
only ask you to reboot after the update once and be done.

Note:   WAIT4SD is a hidden file; you may have to change your folder setting
to show hidden files.  To do this, go to the Control Panel, then to Folder
Options, then to the VIEW tab and you will find an option to check "Show
hidden Files and Folders"   If this option is unchecked, check it, then OK
the window and find the WAIT4SD file.  You might was to reverse the process
and again uncheck "Show hidden Files and Folders" after you are done.

Thank you for that Rich in AZ but I have not found a file on this PC
with the name WAIT4SD either by looking as you suggested or by running
a search and that is with hidden files showing - my OS is XP. That
being the case I will go with Noel's idea to
download/uninstall/reinstall. Will let you know how this affects AVG
once done.

Reinstalled AVG and so far the immediate update following went well as
did the scheduled update this morning. Fingers crossed - looking good.
Had another look for the WAIT4SD in this version but still not there.
Thanks for the advice.
