This will pretty much trump AV protection.

Yeah, some are easy enough to remove, and even easier to avoid *having*
to remove. :o)

Some stuff will get past detectors. With admin rights, what gets past
may well attack the detector itself. After that, even well known and
reliably detectable malware can get past.

The best thing to know would be exactly what was on the exploit riddled
website.

...as a side note, I read somewhere, about a month ago, that 80% of the
most popular legitimate websites had served up malware within that one
week period. IIRC it was mostly through advertisements that they had
hosted.

I read that too. I posted relevant article - the second post in this
thread - but maybe David was too distracted/frustrated to read it!

That's what I'm hoping someone would be able to answer here.  But these
newsgroups seem stacked with people who are quick to admonish others but not
add much constructive information.

...they change so fast...

The only way anyone could do that would be if you had posted the address
of the exploit site (munged of course). It might have been in your temp
files, or might still be. Doing it now, would only show what it offers
now (if it hasn't moved again already). They often use the latest
exploits, since they are commercially motivated.

You don't need or want the stolen cobbled script of junk Chris panders
here. He's already got one sucker (BD), don't become his next one.

Avast is an anti-malware app.  It is extremely good otherwise at detecting
problems.  To say that it is solely anti-virus indicates that you don't know
what a virus is.

The Internet Idiot is for sale. Purchase it ( forgot that you got one
for free for a
lifetime)and bring it with you to your narrow boat which is rented from Mr.
Wilkinson for a season at a time. Make sure you also cry about your
supposedly son
who unfortunately passed away. That was a hell of a story. Did you also
tell Jenn
that she spoke to your ladyfriend and not to Thrish. You are one of the
stupidest
persons alive and on the Net

Re: Avast Doesn't Block XP Defender malware (ave.exe)

It is easy to see why you and pcbutts formed a partnership.

Downlow often with him?

He can't even actually program; his work is a compilation of other peoples
programs. His remove it even includes microsofts MSE program now. Tells you
how reliable his junk really is huh? :)

No. I don't wish to disrespect the hacker community; they have skills and
they worked to acquire them. Cut/paste is script kiddy work, and thats what
Pcbutts is able to do, sometimes.

Avast! is an antivirus application. It has some antimalware/antispyware
capabilities also.

For the record "the lastest version" means exactly that, 5.0.462.  I'm
wondering what part of "latest version" people don't understand.

Anyhow, back to our story...MB found it, Avast didn't.  The ave.exe malware
program has been out there for some time.  I first saw it almost a year
ago.  I'm really surprised and disappointed that Avast didn't see it, and I'm
inclined to rethink whether I should encourage my customers to use it.

I wonder how Avira AntiVir would have done in its place.
