Do you think that the problem with Browser CleanUp could be that it tries to
uninstall the offending program(s) without shutting down all the browsers
first?
Curious;

Occasionally; but I'm a big fan of a registry backup before hand. [g]

Hmm. Which AV would you replace it with? You aren't suggesting people run
their systems commando style instead are you?

Yes, the first question was a setup; it doesn't matter which AV/AM product
you use. You are still just one bad definition update away from a minor
annoyance to a hosed system.

Have they removed that obnoxious nag screen or the excessive false positives
(honest, it was pretty bad) yet? I'll take a look sometime and see.. hehehe.

occasionally there's a nag pop up, but no false positives, I don't mind,
it IS free.

Other than the two issues I mentioned previously, and it's odd interface
(hell, avast is getting crazy there too), it's a decent AV in it's own
right.

Dustin I saw what you did there.... you snipped out all the info
Pooh Cat posted which you didn't want to answer. Nice trick!   :)

asked.. :)

No, but I prevented it to install several unneeded/unwanted "tools".
Once installed you can still uninstall these tools through: Control
Panel > Programs and Features > avast! Free Antivirus > Change

And while you're there, you can uninstall the Mail Shield too.

I personally don't use the Mail Shield or the Web Shield and I turn off
Grime Fighter, Browser Cleanup and Software Updater.
I think it was GrimeFighter that caused the problem.
And YES, I believe Avast WAS the problem and others should be aware of the
problems that Avast can cause. But, it is a great program overall, as long
as you don't let it delete or uninstall everything it wants to.
