Anyway to use Avast with Avira or AVG free versions not in startup?

Do you have a question? Post it now! No Registration Necessary.  Now with pictures!

What I'm thinking of is using Avast as my main AV program (with it's
multiple shields).  Is there anyway of installing AVG or Avira free
versions and not have it load as a startup program, so that it can be run
as a 2nd AV check when necessary?

I was thinking of a normal install (where they usually insinuate their
dll's or exe files into resident memory), then using either MSCONFIG, Mike
Lin's startup, or Process Explorer's Autorun utility to remove the process
from running (or just do a regedit command myself).  I would also check
services to see if a service was added and change it from AUTO to manual
(or disable and run it when necesssary).

Considering that it took Alwail two months to cure the VBS:Zulu problem detected
using IE7
on MS web sites, they have lessned any respect they may have had.

NOT a good idea at all, as someone else here said.

I've found that Kaspersky is a mem usage hog, and who wants some private
company to scan your hard drive and have a record of all your files?

How can you tell they're not copying a file or two?

Only one or two!  During the five minutes of so you're connected to an
online AVP they've got the power to download the complete contents of
your hd.  They use a special version of PKZip that has compression
beyond your wildest dreams.  Both the CIA and FBI use it too.
You've been warned - this message will disappear in a week.
