Antimalware : genuine or not ?

Is there a site that keeps a list of genuine and fake antimalware
software ?
I am just wondering how I can recognise true antispyware/malware from
the fake ones that are put in circulation to infect your PC with new
malware/spyware.

A colleague told me about malwarebytes.org, which he said contains
some very good antispyware, but I am reluctant to install this unless
I can get the news from a reputable source that this is genuine
antispyware.

Check in the alt.privacy.spyware newsgroup for info.
MalwareByte's Anti-Malware (MBAM) and SuperAntiSpyware (SAS) are both highly
recommended.
There is a free version of each and they will clean just as well as their
paid versions.
Two excellent programs. The paid versions offer real-time protections and
well as other features.
I use the paid version of SAS and the free version of MBAM . Since
installing the paid version of SAS, I have not contracted any malware or
spyware that was detected.

Re: Antimalware : genuine or not ?

If you lurk in this NG and in alt.privacy.spyware for a while you will soon
get to know exactly whose opinion can be trusted and who can't.

You don't know me but I can assure you that SuperAntispyware, Malwarebytes,
AdAware and Spybot are all perfectly reliable. I use about six different
programs once a week or so, and have had no real problems for years now;
Advanced System Care is also good as well as CCleaner. They all have free
versions and then if you particularly like one or the other you can upgrade
to the pro version.

Many other programs which spring up unannounced tend to give false
positives, just to scare you and to make you buy their product. Steer clear
of them, and ask advice here or in the other NG.

MBAM is vetted and trusted.  I highly recomend it.
