another trojan question

I downloaded a program in zip form.  When I extract the files (just one file
actually: setup.exe) my AVG automatically finds a trojan and I get a choice
of moving it to a vault, healing it, or ignoring it.  I choose "heal it" and
all AVG does is delete the setup.exe file and I end up with the original zip
file.  Am I doing something wrong or is this the only way to "heal" and
infected exe file?   Incidentally, I am doing nothing illegal.  I already
have the program I am downloading, I am just experimenting with a new
downloading software I was given.

Thanks in advance for all help.

Re: another trojan question

Stay away from those crack sites. If the anti-virus cannot "heal" it then it
would delete it.

You could upload the file to jotti
http://virusscan.jotti.org /
where it will be scanned by many scanners. If it is infected-there is no
way of healing(repair). Healing is basically for system files-not stuff
you download.

this is a problem with terminology... the file is not "infected",
infection is generally the exclusive domain of viruses... a trojan file
is all bad, there's nothing good inside to save...

whether or not it's a false alarm, however, is anybody's guess... the
sample submission suggestion you got from max may lead to more insight
about that question...
