What is the best online virus scanner?  I run XP/SP2.

I read Kaspersky is one of the best but it needs Java and I don't run
that.  About.com didn't like Trend very much, so what should I try?

That is not an ONLINE (Dr. Web) virus scanner as the OP asked. Besides that it
is
one of the worst ones which also if you are not aware needs to be installed on
your
computer

Maybe you can recommend the one that is an online scanner as the OP asked. (
Hint )
Norton,Jaspers. Trend,MacAfee,Norman and etc

Why does it have to be an online scanner ?

My Multi-AV Scanning Tool provides you with;  Trend Micro, Sophos, Emsisoft and
Avira
scanners.

Dave,

I love your program and even "plugged" it on my blog and use it here at
work in conjuction with WinPE.  Just curious: why do you have it hosted on
a web site completely in German?

I'm using it right now to pull down the scanning files and signatures, but
a specific WinPE mode would be nice :)

Thanks,
Adam

It's a long story concerning the Internet persona named PCBUTTS1 who is a
plagiarist of
anti malware utilities.  I cought him actively plagiarizing and called him out
on it
publicly.  In revenge, PCBUTTS1 (Patrick Cristopher Butts) created a Sock Puppet
and
committed fraud and perjury and filed a fraudulent DMCA Claim on my Multi-AV
Scanning Tool
which was hosted on IK-CS.Com .  Since the owner of the site (Ian Kenefick) was
a citizen
of Cork Ireland, the hosting provider IK-CS.Com didn't head properly formatted
Counter
Nofications and the site was permanantly shutdown.  Ian just had a son within a
week of
that time and was in no mood to fight.  Therefore he allowed the site to be
permanantly
shutdown.

A friend suggested hosting it on PCTipp Magazine indicating she knew it was
fraud and
indicated the worlds largest priblisher, IDG, would not fall for his shit and
thus it has
been hosted, publicly, on PCTipp Magazine.  Which is hosted in Switzerland so is
in Swiss
German.

Thanx Adam for your support of the Multi-AV.

of us who've used your product has wondered the same thing...

Interesting.  This sounds somewhat famliar with my run-in with the
creator of Combofix.  He took it down due to a "unknown bug", so I
hosted it on my web site with a link back to his web site explaining
the situation.  I didn't think it reasonable that he took it down and
wrote that on my blog.  He didn't like that and then filed a DMCA claim
against my site, even though the software is freeware.

I took it down and haven't used it in a year.  Anyways, if I can help
in any way, let me know (the from address is my public facing address
and is real).  I think your software is a lot better than AVERT!, since
AVERT! deletes the signatures after it is done downloading them.

Do you have a newsletter or do you usually hang out here when you
update the tool?

Thanks,
Adam

I know the author of ComboFix and I know its (the tools) intentions and I fully
understand
why he would file a DMCA Takedown Notification to block you from hosting it.
You (and all
the rest of unknowing users) need to know that ComboFix is a dangerous tool that
can
corrupt the OS if used improperly.  It also was known to corrupt the OS in
instances of
certain TDSS RootKit variants.  Thus he had to make sure other "copies" were
removed.  The
author makes sure ComboFix's distribution is tightly controlled.

**ComboFix should *ONLY* be used in conjunction with anti malware assistants on
a help
Forum who have gone through proper malware removal training.

I do not have a newsletter -- sorry.

I am a regular participant in Usenet news groups and will frequent the malware
related
groups such as;  alt.comp.virus , alt.comp.anti-virus ,
microsoft.public.security.virus
and alt.privacy.spyware  as well as other groups which include;
alt.comp.freeware .

Although obviously obfuscated, my posting email address is real.  Feel free to
contact me
anytime.

Actually, he said he would allow me to host it, but I would have to put
it on a "hidden" part of my site so the general public wouldn't find
it.  Trust me when I say this really had nothing to do with anyone's
safety, but my criticism of him removing the tool.

I've moved on to other cleaners, such as your tool :)

Not similar in the least. Combofix is a legitimate application; and one
likely reason for not wanting everyone to re-distribute the file as
opposed to linking to his site is to ensure the latest versions are
available.

His program is of the kickass nature.. :)

Hi Adam :)

I've raised this matter with Mr Lipman before. He told me that an old
friend of his runs pctip and I think he said he gets his Multi-AV hosted
free of charge. No doubt he'll confirm that.

FWIW - I think he is selling himself short by so doing. Web hosting is
cheap nowadays, and I've already recommended that he set up his own web
site and advertise Multi-AV thereon. He declined so to do.

I've used Multi-AV myself on a trial basis and it seems to work well. I
don't understand why someone would create something so useful and then
hide it away from many of those folk who might just benefit from using
it. Especially on a German site without an explanation in English. Madness!

There's an example of cheap hosting here: http://www.annex.com /
