the desktop. It identifies explorer.exe as being infected, as is
notepad.exe and six other files when the full scan is run. Avast finds
nothing, even with the Bagle cleaner tool. Sysclean finds nothing but
reacts instantly to the bait virus it includes. I've scanned and cleaned
the system twice. a2 will remove the implicated files but this will
trash the system.
I use Firebird/T-Bird and run a tight ship but something seems to have
gotten in anyway. Ideas?

That's it. Thanks! Definitely from the last set of windows updates.
And, I got the false positives again from the A2 update which really
confused things. This was all on the 15th which is the date it was
supposedly fixed. I'm removing A2 for a week or so just to let the dust
settle. This was a serious waste of time but i found that my systems work.
