Which is exactly what this story is so far, isn't it? I mean, is there
/any/ record of it besides your opinion of your memory? :)

Believe it or don't. I don't really care.

Sure. But maybe you notice the slight inconsistency in that you consider
"the unsupported opinion of somebody posting on USENET" not worth a whole
lot, yet fail to see that this is exactly what you did... posting an
unsupported opinion. And while you are "I" to yourself, you are "somebody"
to everybody else :)

You are missing the point--the person to whom I was responding was arguing
that the _newspaper_ was in error, not that _I_ was in error.

Maybe you are missing mine: I just added that nobody knows whether either
is right -- including you (for half of it, at least :)

For all we know, it's one person to say he remembers that one newspaper ran
that story. I think that qualifies as "unsupported opinion of somebody
posting on USENET". (You brought this concept into this discussion :)

I'm not calling you a liar, nor the newspaper. It's just that it's an
unsupported story posted on usenet, nothing more, nothing less. (FWIW, I
consider most information that is one-source-only "tentative".)
