I just bought this External IDE Case for my computer running on Abit
KA7RA with AMD 1700 and 1 Gig Memory.
I used Hard Drive which is currently working in my computer. My
computer recognizes both the interface of IEEE and USB with this
drive, I can see it in System Device control but not in Explorer. Why
it should be so, any ideas.
Re: Trouble with 3.5" H.D. External Case
I have experienced a couple of problems with external cases. A 2.5" HDD case
that did not have an external power supply gave me similar problems to the
Op. I fixed that one by buying a Mac Power case (made by Ice Cube) that had
it's own power supply and that sorted that one out. USB ports only supply
1/2 an amp and those drives require 1 amp to fire them up.
I also experienced similar with a 3.5" case where the external power supply
was faulty. Back to the shop for a swap fixed it up.
I also had a similar problem but the tiny IDE cable in the USB case was arse
about and the red stripe of the cable was connected to pin 40 in the case
and pin 1 on the HDD. I put that minor problem to rights and all was well.
All these cases were brand new.
I never though to ask if the Op was running 98SE or ME either.
