I have a sempron 2400 on an asus a7v400-mx mb. I have a cooler master
aero 7 lite cooling the cpu. My question is that with cpu idle running,
my idle is at 42C, load (playing nfsu2 for about 2 hours) it goes up to
52C, but if I stop cpu idle the idle goes to 48C and load goes to the
same 52C, is this normal? I know cpu idle is pretty good, but I didn't
think there would be *that* much of a difference!

I want to get my idle temps lower so I can feel safe running linux
(there's no cpu idle type proggy for it).
Thanks for any advice.

Sounds ok to me.

Sure there is. With my old via board I used lvcool, with a sis board I
used athcool. I think Athcool also supports the VIA chipset boards.
And then there's FVcool. Don't know anything about it. See the Athlon
Powersaving HOWTO.

My mistake, I will research those. Thanks again!

the temperature  diffifference is completely normal, if your processor usage
goes beyond a certain point CpuIdle stops cooling, that's why temperatures
under load are the same, but when doing normal things such as browsing, etc
it will lower temps by as much as 10C.
