I've completely confused myself on cookies.

   I think this is right.

A cookie set to .some_domain.com is readable by www.some_domain.com

A cookie set to www.some_domain.com is *not* readable by some_domain.com

   Is that right???

Quoted text here. Click to load it

That would be correct. .some_domain.com cookie can be read by any subdomain
in the domain itself, while www.some_domain.com specifies only www can
access it, and not lets say foo.some_domain.com.
