any for folks who create web pages with html instead of their tools. I
found this site that looks fine, <http://www.west.net/~jay/counter.htm .
I have one problem with it. If you go about 1/2 way down the page, you see:
Once you've created the counter script, you now need to cause it to be
run when a page to be counted is viewed. This is done by the following
line inserted in the page:
Substituting your own username for username above, and also substituting
a filename such as page.hits for filename above. If you're counting
multiple pages, each one should have a unique filename.
For example, the code that counts this page is:
What file name are they talking about? Is this for multiple pages. I'd
only like to put counters on individual pages.
Re: Making a counter for a web page
There are many companies out there which specialise in providing counters or
trackers, many of which are free. They take the hassle out of it, and unless
you want to dabble in cgi scripts then I suggest you use one of them.
List of counters I maintain:
http://www.cryer.co.uk/resources/websitecounters.htm - by counter I mean it
shows you a counter on the page.
List of trackers I maintain:
http://www.cryer.co.uk/resources/websitetracking.htm - by tracker I mean it
gives you more visitor information, and *might* not require anything to be
shown on your pages.
Hope this helps.
