I have a question on the version 4 releases of activesync(the ones
that will sync directly with exchange). During setup of activesync on
a smartphone, you have to tell it how to find your mailserver. You
can put an english name for the mailserver(mail.company.com). Is it
safe to assume that so long as that english name has a public dns
entry, activesync should work. Reason why asking is because we have
created a public dns entry for the smartphones with activesync, and
created it as an mx record with a high preference. This entry will
circumnavigate our spamkiller and will go straight to the exchange
server, so we are getting spam. I'm thinking of taking out the
smartphone dns entry(mail.company.com)as an mx record and making it an
A record to resolve the spam issue. Would activesync care about
this? Or should it work regardless of whether mail.company.com is an
mx or an a record. Thanks

Hi,
Exchange ActiveSync on a device to sync with a server just looks for the A
record of the dns name you provided.

The MX record is solely used by the rest of the internet for the delivery of
e-mail via port 25.
