ok i know the easy answer is 'broken!' but hear me out lol
I dropped my laptop from waist height, I powered it up and it works
absolutely fine but it will now not charge. So I just need a bit of
advice to what the problem might be, the battery I expect is still in
place because it turns on etc but now its got a critically low battey
level and when i plug in the charger it wont charge.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
many thanks

Hi,
Did you have a power adapter plugged in when you dropped it?
If so, possibly the power jack connection to the motherboard may have
gotten damaged (e.g., solder connection broke).

Hi! Yes and does it at least run on AC without the battery? If not, it
does sound like the jack may have got damaged. Sometimes if you wiggle
the plug, you might find a spot that it will charge the battery. Then
you can use a book or something to hold it there to charge the battery.
Then remove it once it is charged.

Hi,
I was kind of tempted to suggest trying to "wiggle" the plug, but didn't
for fear that if the solder joint was damaged, that might make it even
worse. I'd probably do that, but then I'd also eventually expect to
take the whole thing apart to try to re-solder it.
Hopefully, it is just the solder joint(s), and the drop didn't tear out
the lands, etc..., or worse yet, crack the mobo :(...

Hi Jim. Well there is a line between wiggling and being forceful. If it
is something broken and if you are gentle, I really don't see the harm.
If you are rough, all bets are off. As you could tear something up. If
it is a broken inside a multilayered board, you are screwed anyway. As
olds are without test equipment and a schematic (this latter part is
almost impossible to get), it is over anyway. Otherwise a little
show/hide quoted text
wiggling should be just fine. <grin>
