Allan,
I have in fact seen several requests to play media files in line so you're
not the only one that would like this feature. We currently don't let
ActiveX controls run in the preview pane because we wanted to keep our
browser instance as locked down as possible security wise. So we'd have to
first explorer the security impact of allowing ActiveX controls before we
could support this feature.
I do have a couple of other questions though:
Is it music that you're wanting to play in place? For things like voice
mail I can see the desire to play the file without opening WMP. But for
music it seems like most of the time you actually want to play multiple
tracks which is why we didn't think it was a big deal to just let WMP manage
track playback for us within it's own UI.
Do you find value in the current album previews we show for music? Would
you rather have the Yahoo!/X1 style preview with just embedded WMP? Or do
you want album preview + embedded playback?
How do you think it should work?
