I added a program (wmodem.exe) to my 6600 using ActiveSync. I would like
to set one of the buttons on the phone to launch wmodem. How do I get it
in the list of widgets that can be assigned to buttons?

Thanks.

Tap Start | Settings | Buttons. For each button it will list all installed
programs and you can then assign your choice.

By the way, the XV6600 is a Pocket PC Phone Edition, not a Smartphone. You
might want to post other questions on microsot.public.pocketpc.phone_edition
instead.

Thanks. I'll post my question there.

The program I "installed" does not show up in the list of installed
programs. My "install" process consisted merely of copying it over from
the laptop via Active Sync. While the program works, it is sitting in
"My Documents", not in the list of programs.

I think the list of apps comes out of what's in programs. Luckily that is
mostly just shortcuts to apps. For cleanliness you might want to take the
program out of My Documents and put it in it's own folder in Programs. Then
right click and copy a shortcut into Windows/start menu/programs/ . Should
make things cleaner and probably let you assign a button more easily.

Just to clarify, when following Sven's suggestions, you tap and hold a file
and select Copy, then browse to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs, tap in Options
| Edit | Paste Shortcut.
