Recently, I encountered a problem in reinstalling MSN Desktop Search toolbar.
When I tried to install it, a message pops up that "This version of MSN
search Toolbar is installed on your computer. Click OK to cancel this
installation".
I use following method to resolve the problem. Note that this is just a
workaround not a resolution.
1. Close all programs.
2. Install a latest WinRAR or WinZIP program. You can download a trail
version from the internet.
3. Extract the "MsnSearchToolbarSetup_en-us.exe" file to a folder. Yes, it
is correct. If this MSN_XXXx.EXE file is a zip folder. After extract it, open
the folder, and then you will find two files "MsnSearchToolbar.msi" and
"Setup.exe".
4. Ignore the "Setup.exe' file, double-click the "MsnSearchToolbar.msi", and
the install process window will pop up!
5. Now, you can follow the wizad to complete the installation.
I have used above method to reinstall MSN toolbar in my Windows XP
professional.
If the installation cannot proceed, please check following options:
1. Uninstall all Windows Search Toolbar/MSN Search Toolbar in Control Panel
2. Disable all MSN/WST add-ins in IE
3. Check Spyware using HijackThis or other anti-spyware third party software
Hope this workaround can help you, who encounters the same problem like me!
