Hi everybody,
A friend has asked me to take a look at his laptop, in order to set up a
wireless connection with his new router. The router has already been
configured, and works like a charm - until now, he has always accessed
the internet through an ethernet connection.
The HP Pavilion DV6000 has a small swith on the left front side, in order
to turn on the wireless device, including a small led to indicate the
on/off position. Orange should resemble off, whilst blue is on.
When he first got the laptop, the switch worked, and the led switched
from orange to blue and back. Now however, the switch no longer appears
to work - the led remains orange in whatever position you put it in.
I've had a look around on the internet, and I've found a LOT of problems
with the DV6000, which led me to download a lot of drivers and other
software to "wake up" the wireless device, but to no avail.
Does somebody know of a way to get the wireless device to work? Or could
it be that it's just broken? The laptop is still under warranty, but
returning it to the store would mean that he'll have to leave his laptop
there for two-three months, which is not really an option.
On a sidenote: I was also unable to install a Canon Pixma 5200 -
something which normally just requires a few clicks. Alas, the laptop
refused to recognize the printer.
Thanks for any and all suggestions!
Best regards,
Ikke

Take a serious look at

and

to see if you're having any of the problems mentioned there. The hardware
problem seems to *start* with wireless troubles and get worse from there. HP
is working with people affected to get their machines running again. Mine
was one of them (a DV9005). They replaced the motherboard in one week.

A friend of mine bought this laptop for university. In Jan. the wireless
stopped working. Called HP, they said send it to them and they would
have to change the motherboard. They sent a box to send it back in.
It was supposed to be back in less than two weeks according to the
service agreement. Three weeks later HP calls and says that it'll be
another three weeks before they get the new motherboards in. So they'll
send a new laptop, a better model than she had (don't know what one).

Please log in for more thread options Back up the current load and restore to the original preinstall and see if
it works. I can't believe two or three months on warranty service. The last
ThinkPad warranty service I had was four days and that was with UPS
shipping.
