Hi All,

I just recently reformated the HDD on my DELL Inspiron E1705. I left the
Dell re-boot partition on their in order to prevent a void of the warrantee.
Regardless, the system seemed to be functioning normally. Suddenly, the OS
will not completely boot. The window's logo and loading graphic appears for
a few seconds, then the screen goes black and the system becomes unresponsive.

Any suggestions? Could a virus have infected that bootable partition that
Dell makes and spread into the main? All suggestions are very much
appreciated!

Thanks,
-E

First question is why did you need to format and reload in the first place?

The system began exhibiting signs of infection. Slow processing times for
simple tasks... Plus there was a number of software "trials" that I wanted to
get rid of. I was under the assumption that the system had been infected and
that the best course of action would be to back up necessary files and
reformat the HDD.

First thing to do if a fresh install isn't behaving is to run some hardware
diagnostics, test the hard drive and memory to make sure there are no
problems there. for the memory test use Memtest86 http://www.memtest.org/
The hard drive diags can be downloaded from the mfg's website.
