I just bought a brand new at retail Gateway 831GM PC with Media Center 2005
"supposedly" pre-installed. When I click on "Control Panel" and the "System"
it reports that it has Windows Media Center 2002 Service Pack 2 installed. Is
something amiss here? Shouldn't this report back MC 2005? Or did Microsoft
have it simply show the original release "year" for MC? Does anyone know
how to definitively tell that the version I have is MC 2005? Please let me
know. Thanks!!!

To see your Media Center Edition version start Media Center and click
Settings> General> About Media Center> Software Version.

What you're looking at is Windows XP version information. Understandably
confusing.
