Hi all - a couple of questions as I'm a newbie to the world of Windows Mobile.

1. Is RDC available on a Windows Mobile SmartPhone? I want to use one as a
remote client into an XP host, but from wherever I am in the world, whether
or not I'm within range of a wifi network. I think this would require GPRS
capability if I'm not in range of a wifi network. Also are VPNs (I want the
connection to the XP host to be secure).

2. Can anyone recommend a particular smartphone that they find good overall?
I'm really interested in using it as a small portable pc instead of lugging
around a laptop with me everywhere just to use RDC.

Thanks

Cliff

I have an article about this on my blog. In a nutshell, this feature
is not built into the Smartphone edition of Windows Mobile. Third
party apps do exist though. check this link,

for more. Note that Pocket PC phone edition do have a Terminal
Services Client.

And regarding the model, it will somehow depend on where in the world you
are and what network you are connected to.

From the name Cliff I would guess USA; there you will be able to find the
Samsung Blackjack at Cingular and the T-Mobile Dash as two fenomenal
devices.

If you are in Europe, there are the Samsung i600, the SP5 from i-mate, and
some other HTC models.....

To add to what Helio said, the Dash/htc s620 is a superb smartphone.
it doesn't have 3g like the blackjack, but it has wifi as a tradeoff.
The blackjack has limited battery life. That's probably why you get
two spare batteries on purchase. Personally I prefer the Dash. It's
fast and slim.

I was in BIG doubt when I was choosing one to bring with me to Israel when I
was in the US. It is funny as it all comes to personal taste at the end.

Despite the fact that I knew that the 3G wouldn't work in Israel (wrong
frequencies), I chose the Blackjack due to the Edge support. And I was
surprised to discover that with the extended battery (that comes in the
package), my battery life is between 2 and 4 days, depending on the amount
of use of the phone in conversations. And taking in account that Push Mail
is on from 8AM to 8PM. So I can't really complain.

Both phones are awesome. And in Europe you have also the HTC Breeze (with a
different name on each brand reselling it) which is great as well.
