I installed Windows Desktop Search several weeks ago on a clean installation
of Windows 2000 SP4. It worked perfectly for a few weeks, but recently it
simply stopped working. When I start my computer or start WDS on its own, I
get the following error message:
Windows Desktop Search has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience.
I send the error report, then get another error message:
The Windows Desktop Search index isn't working properly. To fix this
problem, you'll need to restart your computer, and you may need to rebuild
the index. Select one of the following options.
() Close all programs and restart my computer now
() Close all programs, restart my computer, and rebuild the index now
() Close Windows Desktop Search and try again when I restart my computer
later.
If this problem happens again after restarting your computer, please
reinstall Windows Desktop Search.
I've tried each of those three options, and have reinstalled WDS many times,
but the problem remains. I tried to uninstall the program, but it doesn't
appear in the Add/Remove Programs window.
Sorry I can't say which version I'm using (or rather, would like to be able
to use) since WDS won't run long enough for me to check the version number.
Any ideas will be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Matthew
