I love using the Windows Desktop Search on my computer but I keep having
problems with it. It installs ok and indexes fine but after a week or so of
using it my computer will start freezing up. It will usually freeze for 5-10
seconds and then go back to normal. It will do this every few minutes and is
very agravating when I'm trying to work. I'll uninstall WDS and everything
will return to normal. I have installed WDS 4 times over the last few months
and it eventually does the same thing everytime and I have to uninstall it to
get back to normal. Because of this, I had to resort to using Google's
Desktop Search, which is ok, but I much prefer the way WDS displays the
search results. Have ya'll run across this problem before?
Thanks, Mike

Yes I've had this. Not freezing as such, but slows everything down
horrendously. Uninstalled today and my computer is back to flying.

Hi Mike,

You will want to ensure that the Prioritize Indexing options is not selected
in Desktop Search Options, Advanced.
If you have this selected it will cause 'issues' with performance. However
if it is turned off the indexer should back off on mouse movement, typeing,
disk I/O etc..

Also you may want to check your version if it's 2.5 or earlier, upgrade to
the latest version 2.6.5.xxx You can get it here:

hth,

Jeff
